Memoirs of via sapienta

Or lack thereof

Day 1.

On day one, our first block of the day was math. All 13 students that didn’t go to Via Sapientia shared every block, which makes sense considering the low amount of attendees and teachers. But it did pose a problem since we were a mix of six, seventh, and eight graders and all studied different things, so the teacher couldn’t fill us in about anything new or explain something further for each individual student. Our second block was P.E, where we played table games, such as ping-pong and toc-toc. Some people chose to play paredão or tetherball, but we all mostly played table games. Our third block was Social Studies, where we again worked individually. Everyone worked to make up tests, then finished their Social Studies section of the Via notebook if they could. Our last block was Maker Space. We watched a Ted Talk on 3D Printing then made our own CAD’s, which is what the 3D printer receives to print. (like a blueprint.) I made a CAD of an egg, which I then printed on Tuesday since it takes 2:30hours to print completely.

Day 2.

On day two, our first block was Language Arts. We all worked on whatever language material was left for us to work on. Our second block was P.E, which went the same as it did on Monda, except that Mr. Pulido spent it with us. I got mad because I have a pretty good rep. in paredão, but he just crushed me. I can’t say I didn’t expect it, since he was a former sport coach. Our third block was science. Ms. Tanya made the eight graders some activities on our subject, which was about organic farming and planting. We watched some videos and wrote a bit on what we watched and the process of organic planting and the water treatment cycle & drew a comic explaining the process. Our last block was the Logic Puzzles. It was frustrating because the puzzles demanded a really large amount of concentration and brainpower to figure out, but eventually we did and it felt great to get them all done.

Day 3.

This day was the most exciting one. We all got in the van at exactly 8:30 and spent another hour in it on our way to the museum. We saw many cool things on the way, such as another, possibly new angle to the lagoa and all sorts of statues and buildings. We passed by places in rio, such as São Cristovão, that even I, who’ve lived in Rio my entire life, hadn’t gone to. The museum was really fun, we had a packet of activities to fill in and questionnaires. We saw artifacts dating back to 1500, when the portuguese first arrived in Brazil. We saw native brazilian artifacts and pottery, we saw slave pottery from the colonial times, we saw many paintings and statues, but coolest of all, when we reached the very end of the museum, there was a showcase of old toys, games, clothing and furniture of the past couple of decades. This gave a chance for both the students and teachers to experience a measure of nostalgia after seeing toys they played with in their youth, and it was very nice to see them all so preserved. I wonder if in the future they’re have an iphone in there, or a 3D printer like Ms. Florence showed us.

Days 4&5:

I didn’t go to school on thursday and friday because I caught a stomach flu and had to stay home. You can ask Ms. Valeria if you want, but I can’t write about anything school-wise. I woke up and felt really sick, so I ask my mom if I could stay home. She let me and later on there were more complications blah-blah, so I ended up staying home the whole day. The next day, we were planning on letting me stay home until 10, and see what happens then, but I threw up so the rest is history. I’m sorry I can’t really write more, and I don’t think you’ll want to read about me being sick.
